SATHYA REVIEW – An Intriguing watch on the screen !!! 0 59

Certainly one of the most astute movies this year, the greatest quality of Sathya is its capriciousness. The director Pradeep Krishnamoorty’s content (a faithful remake of Telugu ┬áspine chiller ‘Kshanam’ with insignificant changes) is the genuine motive. You’re drawn into this convincing wrongdoing screenplay which is ideal from the starting point and it keeps you speculating till the very end.

Sathya is a well made thriller that moves at a rapid pace with twists and turns, and a lot of gripping moments. The film works largely due to its engaging screenplay by Karthick Krishna and neat packaging by director Pradeep, along with an amazing supporting cast, who not only look real but behave like the characters that they are meant to be. The hero himself gets a refreshing makeover and looks and behaves exactly like the NRI IT professional from Australia.

To be reasonable, the acting is reliably first class no matter how you look at it. It is Sibi Sathyaraj’s best ever execution and he is the magic that binds this film. He conveys a complicated, nuanced performance that is difficult to blame. Ramya Nambeesan conveys yet another fine performance┬á and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar sparkles in another look and her peak characterization is a disclosure. For a change Sathish does a genuine part and he is great.

No favor slo-mo shots, no unwanted sound impacts, each scene is made affectionately. The cinematography is in vogue and suggestive, and Simon K King’s tunes (Yavvanna, Sanggu) and BGM emerges. The film’s production design is top-class and another noteworthy part of Sathya is the clever and appealing exchanges of Karthik Krishna.

NEGATIVES - On the flipside, there are some loopholes in the climax, which leaves a lot of questions unanswered. The CLIMAX also looked hurried in the 2 hour 8 minutes thriller. But beyond these niggling issues, the film is engaging and is an intelligent thriller.

FANOLLYWOOD’S VERDICT – A┬áfilm that should be viewed, particularly for its awesome film-production. It is a clever edge-of-the-seat spine chiller.

RICHIE REVIEW – A decent remake which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea !!! 0 60

Richie is another remake in Tamil, this time it’s Rakshit Shetty’s Kannada film Ulidavaru Kandanthe that gets the Kollywood treatment. This is a neo-noir wrongdoing film, set in a little angling town directed by ┬áGautham Ramachandran. The film has been in the news for being Mollywood’s young sensation Nivin Pauly’s first straight Tamil film. Nivin is a rage in Tamil Nadu as his Cult classic romantic tale Premam was a big blockbuster.

When Gautham Ramachandran interprets his version, he is making Richie his title protagonist and thus there is considerable reduction in screen space for other characters. The movie is only 110 minutes long, which is almost 40 minutes lesser than the original. May be because of the lack of acceptance the film faced in Kannada, the creators here chose to keep the narrative simple. But as someone who prefers interesting experiments, this simplification of things was something that I couldnÔÇÖt really accept.

Nivin Pauly is convincing as Richie in terms of body language. His weakness here is the dialect. He is playing a local rowdy and the Mallu Tamil slang was a downside of his otherwise tidy performance. The space for Shraddha Srinath is lesser than what her Kannada counterpart Tara got. Natty gets the other major role and Gautham has given some good subplots to this character to make the foundation strong.

Even though Gautham Ramachandran has diluted it for the sake of easier understanding, I did like the way he used the scope of interpretation.  The overall technical quality of the film is superior to the Kannada version. The quality music and score of the original has been retained. The frames added rawness to the story telling.

FANOLLYWOOD’S VERDICT – Richie is a good remake that may not have the same craft of Ulidavaru Kandanthe. It is less complex, but original in its own credit. The segment of audience who haven’t seen the original but like experiments which arenÔÇÖt driven by just one character can give this one a shot.

VELAIKKARAN AUDIO LAUNCH – “Will do 1 film as Velaikkaran to educate the society though I am an Entertainer ” – Sivakarthikeyan 0 55

The audio launch of Sivakarthikeyan’s Velaikkaran directed by Mohan Raja was celebrated in a grand manner on 3 December at Chennai’s ITC Grand Chola. In spite of the fact that the whole supporting cast and group were in full participation, Nayanthara and Fahadh Faasil, who assume critical parts in the film, were prominent by their nonattendance. Rockstar Anirudh Ravichander performed two hit songs from the collection ÔÇô Karuthavanlaam Galeejaam and Iraivaa.

In a befitting manner, the creators respected some barely known, overlooked specialists from different strolls of life, for example, Traffic Police Kumar, Auto Annadurai, Moar Thaatha, Sundari Akka, Birdman Joseph Sekar for their persistent devotion and diligent work. Another feature of the occasion was the screening of the making video of a sprawling, practical work set developed by craftsmanship executive Muthuraj for the film.

Speaking on the occasion, Sivakarthikeyan recalled how the project materialized in the first place. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve never approached any director for an opportunity. For the first time in my career, I went to a director (Mohan Raja) and expressed my interest to collaborate because of the impact Thani Oruvan had on me. People see Mohan sir as someone most suitable for doing remakes, but not many know the challenges associated with a remake. I might have turned ten remake offers because I knew I canÔÇÖt do justice to the original.ÔÇØ

Without mincing words, Sivakarthikeyan said: ÔÇ£When I read memes that thereÔÇÖs no Sivakarthikeyan without Anirudh I canÔÇÖt be happier. He has supported me so much through his music and has played a pivotal role in my growth.ÔÇØ

Produced by RD Raja under the banner 24AM Studios, Velaikkaran features an extensive support cast including Sneha, Prakash Raj, RJ Balaji, Robo Shankar, Sathish, Vijay Vasanth, Thambi Ramaiah, Rohini, and Charlie. The film is slated to hit screens on December 22nd for the Christmas weekend.
